Five Reasons to Shop Secondhand (Especially This Week)

What better way to support Fashion Revolution week (April 22 - 27) than to keep it circular by shopping secondhand.

  1. Thrifting is good for the environment. The fashion industry is the world’s second largest polluter.

  2. Reduces textile waste. A survey found that the average American tosses out 81 pounds of clothes each year. That is about 26 billion pounds of clothing/textile that end up in landfills.

  3. Saves you money. Fashion is always changing, and keeping up can be expensive. Most of the “newest” trends are often old fashion trends from years ago. Thrifting allows you to find those same trends at a fraction of the cost.

  4. Creates a unique wardrobe. They have a wide range of items that you cannot find anywhere else. Thrift shops are a great option to hunt for your favorite clothing pieces that are no longer available.

  5. Supports local nonprofits. Many thrift stores help their local communities, non-profit organizations, and charities. They provide an affordable clothing option for families.
